Obituary of Willie Timothy Beckett

Obituary of Willie Beckett W. Timothy Beckett, son of H. B. Beckett and Effie Matthews Beckett, was born January 19, 1924, in Haslam, Texas. He graduated from B. T. Washington High School, received his Bachelor's Degree from Tillotson College (now Huston Tillotson College) and his Master's Degree from Texas Southern University. He married Helen Wiggan of New Orleans on October 6, 1948. To this 64 year union one son and one daughter were born. His 83 year religious affiliation was with St. John Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School Teacher for 50 years, Deacon Board and Board of Trustees. His professional career with the DISD spanned 34 years, as a teacher, principal and central office administrator, completing his tenure as Deputy Associate Superintendent. He continued to work 17 years as an inspector for the EPA. He was a 50+ year member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and numerous other professional organizations. He is survived by his wife, Helen W. Beckett; two daughters, Myrna Lynn Burnside, Jean Lasley; one son, Dr. W. Timothy Beckett, II; grandchildren: Dr. Timothy D. Beckett, Cedric Burnside, Emmanuel Beckett; and 3 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held Sunday June 3, 2012, at 6:00 p.m., Wake at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service set for Monday, June 4 at 11:00 a.m. all at St John Missionary Baptist Church-2600 S.
