Obituary of Gayle Denise Hillman

Gayle Denise Hillman was born on January 9, 1952 in Far Rockaway, NY to the late James H. White and Marie Porter-Wilson. Gayle attending public schools in Stamford, CT and graduated from Rippowan High School in 1970. Gayle was employed as an executive secretary in Stamford for many years before moving to Columbus, OH in 1996. She began her career at Project Linden and subsequently relocated to Dallas, TX in 2010 where she earned her BA in Addictions Counseling from City Vision University. In 2017, Ms. Gayle proudly retired from Homeward Bound where she flourished as a beloved Drug and Alcohol Counselor. Never one to just rest on her laurels and determined to use her talents and knowledge she started “Freedom to Change”, an outpatient drug/alcohol & anger management service. Gayle was totally devoted to what she believed was God’s calling on her life; to carry the message of recovery and freedom to those still suffering from addition. Ms. Gayle was an excited and active member of Christian Chapel Temple of Faith (CCTOF) and sincerely valued her church family. She spoke proudly and often of the work being done at CCTOF and her love for the people who served with her in different ministries. There weren’t many Sundays that she didn’t “get her dance on” while proclaiming the goodness of Jesus and all that he’s done for her. Gayle’s passing has left a void in so many lives including that of her stepfather, Mat Wilson of Stamford, CT. Forever missing and longing to hear the voice of their big sister are Dawn White of Newington, CT, her brother Malik White of Durham, CT, Linda Elam of Richmond, VT, step-siblings Mary, Anne, Mat Jr, and Sylvester (Julie) Wilson. Missing their stepmother’s love are Ashley Hillman of SC and Nicholas Hillman of Columbus, OH. Also mourning their loss are aunts Mary Fisher and Katherine Washington of Brooklyn, NY, Charleese (Samuel) Ramsey of Stamford, CT; her uncles Eugene (Quentel) Porter of Stamford, CT and John Isaac Porter of Chicago, IL. Always blessed by her presence were her niece Jerrhonda Y. White of Kingstown, RI, her nephews Aaric White of Harlem, NY, Shawn White of Burlington, VT, Roy McKeithan of New Haven, CT and David (Dawn) Roberson of Richmond, VA. Always special in her heart were her grandnieces and grandnephews. A host of cousins, friends and especially her Dallas family including her aunt Katherine White, Lynne (Rudy) Sanders, Kathy (Bobby) Merritt, Karen (Donald) Bob and Kilty Baskin will forever remember the joy she freely shared. Gayle was predeceased by her mother Marie Porter-Wilson, sisters, Marian White and Luciene Penny and brother James White. When they all get together, what a day of rejoicing that will be!
