Obituary of Nathaniel Watts
Nathaniel T. Watts, Jr. was born in Dallas, TX. on April 30, 1931, to Nathaniel T. Watts, Sr., M.D. and Louise Sanders Watts. Nathaniel was a graduate of St. Peter's Academy in Dallas, TX. He attended Xavier University in New Orleans, LA., where he met the love of his life, Daisy Creighton. Nathaniel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Xavier University. He served his country in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged from the Armed Forces. After his service, he married Daisy on November 27, 1954. From their union, eight children were born, including one son (Gerard) who died in childbirth.
Nathaniel decided to follow in the footsteps of his father and become a physician. He received his medical degree from Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN. in 1960, and began his internship at the Edward J. Meyer Memorial Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y. In 1965, after he completed his residency requirement in general surgery, he returned to Dallas, TX. and began his medical practice in the South Dallas office building where his father, Nathaniel T. Watts, Sr., M.D., and brother, Stephen E. Watts, M.D., practiced medicine.
Nathaniel spent most of his life providing low-cost, quality medical care to his patients; many times at no cost to those in need. He was a man who lived life to the fullest and loved his family dearly. His wife, Daisy, was his devoted companion for 56 years of marriage. His daughter and six sons were afforded every opportunity to pursue their dreams. He was a loving husband and a wonderful provider for his family. Nathaniel also was a generous friend, who helped and extended many kindnesses to friends, acquaintances and strangers. He will be greatly missed.
He leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Daisy; his daughter, Gwendolyn Satterthwaite (Aaron); sons, Nathaniel T. Watts, III, Stephen E. Watts, II, Michael C. Watts (Maria), David C. Watts (Marilyn), Joseph F. Watts (Jenelle), Paul G. Watts (Kim); 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; a brother, Stephen E. Watts, M.D.; sister, Louise Smith-Taylor (Charles); and many relatives and friends.
