Obituary of Zelma Marie Casey
Please share a memory of Zelma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Zelma Marie Phillips was born the seventh child out of twelve to David and Ella Phillips in Pittsburg, Texas, on September 12, 1921. She was the second mother to her younger siblings and loved all her siblings as if they were her own.
Zelma’s family moved from Pittsburg, Texas, to Dallas, Texas. Zelma graduated from Victory High School in 1941. After high school, Zelma went to trade school and became a seamstress. Zelma was known for being an excellent seamstress and is known as a great seamstress of her time. On January 27, 1946, Zelma married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, The Reverend Nathaniel Casey. To their union no children were born, but many nieces and nephews are affectionately known by Zelma as “her children.” Rev. Casey and First Lady Zelma pastured many churches within the Fort Worth and Grand Prairie Metroplex and were faithful members of Evening Chapel AME Church.
Zelma leaves to cherish the precious memories of her love, her two brothers: Louie Phillips and David (Lois) Phillips, Jr.; sister: Ververly Phillips; and sisters-in-law: Revoda Phillips and Opal Sneed all of Dallas, Texas; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Oh and we could never forget the love she had for her roosters and her rooster collection!!!
