Obituary of James Earl Johnson

James Earl Johnson was born in Dallas, Texas on August 13, 1951 to the union of Helen Jean Fowler and Henry Johnson. James attended his family church Gaines Chapel AME throughout his childhood and continued building his faith for the duration of his life via various church associations. He attended Dallas Public Schools and graduated from James Madison High school in 1969. The home of the mighty Trojans. After graduation, James became an enlisted soldier of the United States Army. He served his country for two years (71-73) in combat as a Vietnam Army Veteran. In addition to surviving war, he was a two-time survivor of cancer. Well Done Solider! James returned home to reunite with family and friends then quickly landed a job with Collins Radio renamed Rockwell in Richardson, TX. Rockwell was merged with Alcatel and through this transition he found an extended family of co-workers for over 25 years. He was very active in the Union and he retired in 2004. The trophies can attest to his love for competitive sports. He played on various Flag Football, Basketball and Softball teams until his health prevented him. Although he could no longer play the game, he lived through his grandchildren’s extracurricular activities. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. He was first married to Sharon Dyan Tatum and later he married Mary Sue Holmes. This was the beginning of a growing and blended family. In the early morning on Friday, February 21, 2020, this warrior was called home to rest. He is preceded in death by his father, Henry Johnson; his brothers, Jerry Johnson and Carl Lee Kelly; aunts, Billie Jean Tiller and Mae Francis McKinney; and uncles, J.W Crowder and Walter Crowder. His homegoing is celebrated by his mother, Helen Kelly, his brothers Michel Wayne Kelly, Crandall Kelly, Billy Johnson, John Johnson and his sisters, Sandra Jean Johnson and Sorainya (Johnson) Harris, his children Ken Holmes, To Rhonda Gipson(Michael), Tharon Johnson (Nakita), Chundra Minor (Anthony), Eugenia Price, Jarome Holmes, Darius Johnson, and Fatimah Johnson, grandchildren, Brittany, Deja, Corey, Keshun, Jarome Jr, Karis, Jonathan, Ethan, Kennedy, Tatum and Khloe along with a host of family and friends.
