Obituary of Bessie Mae Jones

Bessie Mae Carter Jones was born on September 22, 1951 to Nathaniel & Edwena Yarber Carter in Oakwood, Texas. She completed her formal education at Butler High School in Fairfield, Tx., where she participated in basketball and track. Bess furthered her education at Navarro College in Corsicana, Tx., where she received her nursing training and graduated in 1972.
Bessie accepted Christ as her Savior at Rocky Mount Baptist Church at an early age. After moving to Dallas, she united with New Friendship Baptist Church, and later, to Munger Avenue Baptist Church, where she was active in the Nurses Ministry and Child Care During Worship. She was currently a member at Freedom Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Tx, where she served in the Nurses Ministry and aided in kitchen duties. She also volunteered with the Freedom Women’s Prayer Ministry at Williamsburg Village Nursing Center in Desoto, Tx.
On October 25, 1975, Bess united in holy matrimony to Wilkins “Rick” Jones and they remained faithfully together for thirty-seven years. Bess and Rick shared three children and three grandchildren. She was a very caring and loving grand and great grandmother.
She was employed with Dallas VA Medical Center as a Nurse and retired in 2009 after 36 years of service. In her leisure, she enjoyed praising the lord, reading the bible, cooking, and enjoying her great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother; Siblings, Edgar Lee Carter, Nathaniel Carter Jr., Alice Faye Carter Ray, Lula Marie Carter, Melvin Clyde Carter, Phillip Earl Carter and, Addie Jean Carter.
She leaves to cherish her memory and is survived by her daughters, Leecier Greagor and Sherilyn Jones, son, Wilkins Jones III, and children’s father, Wilkins Jones Jr. Also, grandchildren, Richard Greagor II, Michael Greagor, Crystal Greagor, and 10 great-grandchildren. And lastly, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
