Edetha Price Poret

Edetha Price Poret was born on September 21, 1930, in Palestine, Texas, to the parentage of Reverend William Artic Price and Ardalia Bell Price, who both preceded her in death.  She was the eldest of two siblings.

As an infant, she relocated with her parents to Dallas, Texas.  She attended Phyllis Wheatley Elementary and graduated from Lincoln High School.  Edetha continued her higher education at Texas College, in Tyler, Texas, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  It was there she met her husband, Lester Paul Poret.  To this union, six children were born. She was a faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church until she was no longer able to attend.

Edetha was an ardent believer in education.  She began her career as a music teacher in the Lewisville Independent School District.  She continued her dedication to the field of education for 43 years in the Wilmer-Hutchins Independent School District. During her tenure at WHISD, she received many awards, most notably Teacher of the Year.  Her passion and love for working with children did not stop there.  She continued to work with children during the summer at the Dallas Parks and Recreation.  Edetha left an indelible mark on the lives of those she taught and met during her 90 beautiful years of life.

She had a strong faith in God, a gracious heart and was a proud mother and grandmother who loved unconditionally. She found great joy in helping and giving to others.  Edetha was affectionately known to family and friends as “Momma Dee Dee”.

Edetha Price Poret peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 22, 2021.  William Arther Price (brother); Peter Paul Poret (son); and Baby Poret (daughter); preceded her in death.  She leaves to cherish her memory Ardalia Poret Idlebird, daughter; Leslie Ann Stanley, daughter; Michael Paul Poret, son; Regina Poret Holmes, daughter; James Holmes, son-in -law; five grandchildren, Brooke Stanley, Amanda Holmes, Jonathan Stanley, Allison Holmes, and Maxwell Idlebird.
