Obituary of Janice Elaine Shanklin

Please share a memory of Janice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mrs. Janice Elaine Patterson-Shanklin,was born April 11th, 1950 in Dallas, Texas.  She was the third of eight children born to Mrs. Doris Tolbert Patterson & Mr. Floyd Lee Patterson, Sr.

Janice attended Dallas’ Lincoln High School. During those years, she gave birth to & was blessed with her daughter, Jacqueline Denise.  She united in marriage to Louis T. Shanklin, Jr. (LT) in 1975.  Their marriage was blessed by the birth of their sons Anthony Larnell  Patterson & Tavoris Dewayne Shanklin.

Janice accepted Christ as her Lord & savior at an early age and was an active member, along with her siblings & extended family at Bexar Street Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. L. Robertson and later, Rev. C.C. Robertson.  Janice was extremely active at Bexar Street, and involved herself in ministries such as Youth & Children, Mime, Culinary, Pastor’s Support, & Music Ministry.  However, Janice held a special place in her heart for youth and youth activities.  She often acted as a chaperone on youth trips, and making sure that young people had everything they needed to succeed was a passion of hers.  In later years, Janice united with Marching to Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Rickye Scott, as well as Creekstone Church under the leadership of Pastor Kason Branch.

She was employed by Medical City of Dallas in medical billing and coding, and retired in later years as he health no longer allowed.

Janice absolutely LOVED her family, and was adamant about milestones & celebrations.  She felt that it was important to celebrate life, accomplishments and God’s blessings.  Janice loved a good party, and made sure that the people she loved knew it by celebrating them.  Janice was always the life of the party, and always ready for a good laugh.  Her blatant honesty was often comical, but appreciated by everyone around her.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Lee Patterson, Sr. & Doris Elaine Patterson. Grandmother, Gladys Peters. Siblings, Frederick Alvin Patterson, Gladys Marion Patterson-Jefferson & Floyd Lee Patterson, Jr.

She leaves to celebrate her life: her husband, Louis Shanklin, daughter, Jacqueline Patterson, sons Anthony Patterson, Sr. &  Tavoris Shanklin (LaQuntas).  Brothers, Rodney Patterson, Ross Patterson (Evelyn), Cecil Patterson (Gail) & Eric Patterson (Bridgette). Brother-In-Law, Charles Jefferson.  Grandchildren, Courtney Daughtry (Tamniqua), LaMarion Patterson, Anthony Patterson, Jr., Trevon Shanklin, Tyveion Shanklin, Jimylan Patterson & Jordyn Johnson.  Great Grandchildren, Landon Tillis, Courdé Daughtry, Courtez Daughtry & Ke’air Patterson.  “Bonus” Grand & Great Grandchildren, Kyeisha, Jakyrie, Edward, Skyelah & Kyson Robinson, Jeremiyah Herod & Simiyah Jimmerson, and a plethora of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family and friends.
