Celester was born January 14, 1925 in Point, Texas, and is the third of six children born to the parentage of Albert and Zephyr Leggett. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior, was baptized at a young age and served faithfully as a member of the Richland Baptist Church in Point Texas.

Celester received her childhood education from Richland School, in Point Texas. After her parents moved to Dallas in 1941; she enrolled and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas; Class of 1944. Soon after moving to Dallas, Celester united with St. John Baptist Church. She adored children, and found her calling in the Youth Department. In 1947, after meeting the Love of Her Life; Theron B. Sims Sr.; she joined Greater El Bethel Baptist Church, where she dutifully served as a member of the Usher Board, and Board of Deaconess. In 1949 she married Theron B. Sims Sr. and to this union eight children were born.

Celester was blessed with the talent of sewing; she used her exceptional sewing abilities to draw patterns, make tailored suits, and dresses for her children, all with expert attention to detail. She also worked as a professional seamstress for various dressmakers and clothing manufacturers in the Dallas area. She was a marvelous cook, and there was never a shortage of Church folk following the family home after morning service. After the death of her beloved husband,

Celester united with Bethesda Community Church, where she attended faithfully until her health failed.
