Obituary of Myrtle Salone Myrtle Bennie Andrews was born January 24th, 1926 in Dallas, Texas to the parentage of Benjamin Andrews and Mary D. Trevino. Myrtle received her education from Phyllis Wheatley and N.W. Harlee Elementary Schools and Booker T. Washington High in which was the last ninth grade class who attended school from 1:00pm till 4:00 pm. She later attended Lincoln High School where she was a part of the first Purple Flash Drill Team. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942. Myrtle attended Prairie View A&M University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics. Myrtle met the love of her life Clarence Salone and married him December 29, 1944 and to this union they were blessed with one daughter Wanda Joyce. In later years Myrtle went back to school to earn her Master’s Degree in Education. She did grad work at Southern Methodist University and North Texas State University graduating from East Texas State University. She began working for Dallas Independent School District where she began teaching at Sequoyah Jr High school and in later years teaching Home Economics at James Madison High School. In 1971 Myrtle left the class room and became the school Registrar at her beloved alma mater Lincoln High School. She also became the Senior class sponsor and served in both roles until her retirement from the school district in 1986 were she was a faithful employee for 28 years. Myrtle accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. Paul A.M.E Church until her death. She had a voice of angel and sang in the church choir and also was a part of the Jubilee Choir that performed all over the United States. She also served on the Women’s Missionary and Auxiliary Boards also the Women’s Day Program. She worked with the Youth Department and wherever she was needed at St. Paul. Myrtle has served on several boards and commissions for D.I.S.D. and the City of Dallas. She was on the City of Dallas Historical Landmark Commission, Religious Taskforce, Dallas I.S.D., Dallas I.S.D. Superintendent’s Advisory Board, District 9 School Naming Committee, Idlewild Club of Dallas Debutante Committee, Booker T. Washington Advisory Board, Chairperson for the Texas Historical Landmark Dedication of the original Lincoln High school built in 1938. Myrtle was a loyal and faithful member of the Washington Lincoln Alumni Association of Dallas for over 30 years where she served as Scholarship Committee Chairperson for 15 years. Myrtle was also a proud member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Myrtle is survived by her wonderful and loving daughter Wanda Joyce Salone; grandchildren Christopher A. Salone, Tiffani M. Joof; great grandchildren Peter C. Joof Jr, Daniel C. Joof and Justin C. Joof; brother in-law Wilford Salone Sr., nephew Wilford Salone Jr., niece Deborah Parish (Don Sr.), loving cousins Shirley Todd (L.J.), Herbert Trevino, Doris Bluitt and Claudia Slesthenger. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Salone, father Benjamin Andrews, mother Mary D. Little (step father Isaac Little) step brother James Andrews and grandson in-law Peter C. Joof Sr. She also leaves a host of family and friends to cherish her memories.
