Obituary of Edmond Ray Peters

Please share a memory of Edmond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edmond Ray Peters entered into eternal rest, Monday, June 1, 2020. He was born on February 6, 1938, to Joe Lee and Gussie Peters in Atlanta, Georgia. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in Atlanta. After moving to Dallas, he joined Red Sea Missionary Baptist Church (now St. Stephens Community). There he served in several positions. Edmond graduated from H.M. Turner High School. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Fort Valley State University and a master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University. During Edmond’s early years, he coached and/or taught at Fort Valley State, Port Arthur ISD, Beaumont ISD, and Southern University A&M College. While at Southern University he met his devoted wife, Jacquelyn Channel. He later moved to Dallas, Texas, to work at Bishop College. Afterwards, he served for 41 years in Dallas ISD as an educator, coach, athletic director, and stadium manager. To Coach Pete’s friends and associates he brought cheer and laughter. In Atlanta, to his family and friends he was lovingly known as Bo. To his children, he was their superman, they thought he could do anything. To his wife, he was her light, her love, and best friend. His support gave us encouragement and his caring gave us strength. He was a part of everything we did, and we were grateful to call him husband, daddy, uncle, and brother. He will be greatly missed by all. Edmond was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Joan Douse and Carolyn Jones; and brother, Willie Peters. Those left to cherish his memories are wife, Jacquelyn; children: Krystal Dickens (Gerald), Donald Ray, and Andrea; sister, Doris Blount; goddaughters, LaShunda Comeaux and Dania Ratliff; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other loved ones, and friends.
